During this time she also finds that it’s hard to talk about her changing life, as her friends are either growing up too fast or too slow. She had been flirting with him all summer, so should she really expect something different? Joseph, the boy with Leukemia, is conveniently responding to the treatment toward the end of this year when Winnie is at her lowest?
Thirteen is an excellent book for teenagers to read. The other books didn’t mention cell phones at all! The novel Thirteen does have a lot of fun adventures, but it also explores the relationship between Winnie and her boyfriend Larson, or Lars as she calls him.
It’s a fun, cute read when you’re bored, and I will read this book again, when I just need something fun to calm me down. Dinah starts talking to weird Mary Woods, her mom doesn’t have enough time to back her a cake, and Dinah gets suspended because Mary Woods turns out to be a shoplifter. I think ” Thirteen Plus One ” was an enjoyable book to read during the summer. I laughed out loud. I like that she is true to herself, she comes out of her shell especially with Lars and Cinnamon she stands up for herself and not as much in the beginning as in the end. So the book stops in early September, at her high school before she goes in. Suzy Weaver Kline and Suzy Kline. Oh wow I simply cannot wait. And the lessons learned were poignant and spot-on for what girls that age struggle with some of which are things that girls of all ages–even those of us who are well beyond the middle grades–struggle with.
Her plot line can help to avoid all of these problems and if you do get into one, her advice will help.

The author can really paint a picture of the setting in your head. And then there are her siblings, moody for their own reasons, and a mom who has a couple secrets of her own.
I read plenty of YA and had recently started to dip my toes into MG at the urging of my nephewbut needed a broader scope. I Spy the Illuminati Eye. Winnie’s mother is pregnant! Extreme, horrible, freak-out nervousness, the kind I occasionally experienced before having to give an oral presentation or introduce myself to a crowd of strangers.
