This was the first book I read that described ‘false eyes’ in a way you could use on sight when looking at a Goban. Once again, this idamoto take some work to understand for a beginner. I’d iwsmoto people to buy this, play lots of games, and work through the Graded Go Problems for Beginn This was my first go book, and so I owe it a lot for starting off a long time love affair. Wed Apr 06, This was a very eye-opening book and I can see an inkling of why so many say that it is a beautiful game.
I read David’s review, he notes that he has heard there is a hardback edition of the Pantheon version. The three white stones in Diag. Baduk, made fun and easy. There’s plenty to chew on in there although some of it, like the bit about capturing races, will become more useful much later but it it’s great for taming that “OK, now we’re playing – what are all the things that can be going on here? It’s not a fo book but there is beginneds lot packed in there.

There are gentler books for beginners out there, such as the excellent volume one in the Learn to Play Go series by Janice Kim and Soo-hyun Jeong. Also, contain a lot of Japanese terms, which were explained in the first mention and in the A decent beginner book on Go for me having played for a couple of weeks.
This is a very dense read. Instead of going through the rules one by one in an orderly fashion, he uses a sample game to illustrate them. Iwamoto starts by talking to those that have never played go befor Only for ambitious beginners.
Less than I have read this little book since I bought it new soon after it originally was published. The Rules Of Go, which includes a 9×9 demonstration game, and explanation of atarikosekiand life and death especially false eyes. George Caplan Great book, my first as well. I’d advise people to buy this, play lots of games, and work through the Graded Go Problems for Beginners series as an ideal introduction to the game.
