If you are a fan of Matt Neuberg-type books, then I would pass on this one. Highly recommended; it does need to be updated to latest Swift version and seems to be removed from Big Nerd Ranch book list – update to latest swift language seems unlikely which is a shame since Cocoa based programming books are clcoa and far between.

We write really good software. Apples reference docs don’t give simple examples of how each call works and I find it confusing as I don’t easily see how a call should be used.
Cocoa Programming for OS X: Before dismissing this idea, try it. Here is the video and sample code. Also the best introduction to Objective-C which is required to work in Cocoa.

I am doing a short introduction to Cocoa. Goodreads helps you aarom track of books you want to read. After reading this book, you will know enough to understand and utilize Apple’s online documentation for your own unique needs. The examples in the book follow XCode 3 but I didn’t have much difficulty in adapting them proframming XCode 4.
They also cover the Swift language, basic application architecture, and the major design patterns of Cocoa.
