Suggestion or Two

It would be good to have an automated way of checking for updates for both PS and Volumex. If we cannot do it with Apptodate, how about a single check for both PS and Volumex? It is rather annoying that the GUI for the two apps is so different. Each time I check for updates on the two apps, I must pause to remember the location of the "Check for updates" command on the menu (because it differs from PS to Volumex). Perhaps it is time for a major overhaul of the Volumex GUI to make it more consistent with PS. And why, after issuing the "Check for updates" command, do you ask for confirmation? What is the big deal here that confirmation is required?

They better be upgraded independently because each one has different procedures, activation, softresets, setup, etc. Besides the only one having frequent updates is PS.
The confirmation is because it implies data connection, and because sometimes it is pressed by accident as it is not the only option in the menu.

Okay, I get it. Data connection, in contrast to Wifi, may cost money. But what about my other suggestions?
  1. Why not include PS and Volumex in AppToDate?
  2. Even if you don't make the Volumex settings look as glossy as PS, can you not order the menus in the same way for both apps? (In Volumex, "Check for updates" comes at the bottom of the menu, just above "Exit". In PS, "Check for updates" comes at the top of the menu, just under "Reset default settings".) I am sure that I am not the only one who is inconvenienced by this inconsistency.

Ok, will se what can we do. Changing menu position will be the easier for now.

Thanks. I suggest changing the menu position within PS. Check for updates is usually found toward the bottom of the menu, and there is less hand movement required between the tapping of the command and the confirmation.

Regarding AppToDate, it is very convenient. Ageye products like G-Alarm and G-Watch use it. As far as I can tell, there is just an HTML file added to the release and very minimal coding, if any. So it is also probably very easy to do as well.

Well, two releases of PS have come out, and the position of "Check for updates" has not been adjusted. Is there no coordination between the Volumex engineer and the PS engineer? sad smiley

Change has been made to Volumex and you will see it on next update.

I see. Well that's a pity, because it suggests that you moved the "Check for updates" option to the top of the Volumex menu, which is non-standard and less finger friendly (in terms of hand motion required). Still anything is better than nothing.

Options are listed in 'most used' order from top to down.

Even if that were the commonly accepted system - which it is not - how can you be sure which ones are "most used"? And if all of a sudden one item becomes more used than another, would you change the menu order for that reason?

Typically, we see an "About" item on such a menu. The "About" almost invariably appears at the bottom or close to the bottom of the menu. "Check for updates" also appears toward the bottom of the menu. If you are reading this in Firefox, as I am, have a look at the Help menu.

That depends. We don't know which ones are used most, but that is what we suggest. No one else has complained so far.
PC menus are different. Compare it to a mobile application, see the menu for Outlook Email on device, lists from top to bottom. It neither says is the ideal but this is the approach we take.

Sorry, but I don't see either About or Update on my WinMo Outlook menu. But I do have many other apps on my device. And when there is an Update option for those apps, it is almost invariably toward the bottom of the menu. If you like, I can give you some examples. Frequency of use is not the determining factor. A good GUI would base grouping and location more on convenience and user expectation than frequency of use. That makes the app more friendly and more intuitive.
